Northeast Regional Ocean Council (NROC) / Mid-Atlantic Regional Council on the Ocean (MARCO) (July 2020 – February 2021)
Reviewing draft map products developed by NROC and MARCO with members of the party/charter industry from Maine to Virginia for accuracy and improvements. Final product will be a report of conclusions and suggestions for future work.

Characterization of Lobster Fishery Spatial Use Patterns (December 2015 – June 2017)
Contract with Island Institute, Rockland, ME, to report on spatial patterns of the Maine lobster fishery. Qualitative information generated through interviews with Maine lobster fishers on spatial use over time and concerns about competing ocean uses. Results compiled to assist in regional ocean planning.

Spatial Use Patterns by Commercial Fishing and Party / Charter Boats in New England (April 2012 – February 2016)
Project with the Northeast Regional Ocean Council to map activity of commercial fishing and party/charter boats in New England. The resultant maps are used to coordinate regional ocean use and reduce use conflicts. Phase I (April 2012 – July 2013, in cooperation with two other partners) produced preliminary maps of fishing patterns based on Vessel Trip Report and Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) data and interviews with fishermen. Phase II (September 2014 - February 2016) focused on refining Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) maps to discriminate fishing from transit patterns, to map different fisheries, and to document changes in fishing patterns over time. Phase II work also involved developing options for regional mapping of lobster fishing based on information from managers, scientists, and lobster fishers; and coordinating tests of mobile devices by party/charter vessels to report fishing locations for use in ocean planning.

Characterization of Marine Natural Resources Data in New England (February – July 2013)
Partner on a project with the Northeast Regional Ocean Council (NROC) mapping data on marine natural resources (birds, mammals, and fish) in New England. Project included gathering information through interviews with scientists, managers, and stakeholders; combining spatial data on maps; and organizing workshops on project products for interested stakeholders. Products will be used to coordinate regional ocean use and reduce use-conflicts.
